We’ve moved our headquarters from the Indianapolis area to Providence, Rhode Island!
Spending time this spring getting the feel for the local routes and weather patterns. Here are a few snapshots from our recent rides around the Ocean State.
Rhode Island has a large and growing bicycle infrastructure and the diversity of riding here is impressive. I got in a 50-miler yesterday that despite Providence’s sea level starting point, included 1,100 feet of gain across the entire distance. Ok, so not exactly like out west but no flatter than central Indiana overall. There are some truly grinding climbs in the city and as you progress west towards the Connecticut border, it gets hilly.
It’s true, there are some notable gaps in the infrastructure—no bike paths on the Newport, Jamestown, and Mt. Hope bridges—but there are workarounds including busses and of course, Uber XL. The newest bridge in the Providence area, the Henderson Bridge, has what may be the world’s best bridge bike path and the ongoing rebuild of the Washington Bridge also has a great bike crossing.
