Autumnal Equinox Ride

Autumnal Equinox Ride - Jefe.bike

Got up this morning around 5am and laid down around 75 miles and made it home before the rain started. Really beautiful this morning, nice and cool with no wind, and got a chance to watch the sun rise on the autumnal equinox. The corn and soybeans are being harvested right now in central Indiana. On the bike, you really want to avoid the harvesters because they create tons of dust and because of basic safety, you're a tiny spec compared with their huge size and the harvesters and trucks are rushing from one field to the next to get their job done before the rains and they're just not thinking about bikes on the quiet country gravel roads. With the sun starting to rise so late in the day, the kLite is a really great riding partner this time of year.

Riding into the sunrise with the kLite ULTRA Race lighting and charging kit. The light is blinding compared with other dynamo lights and frankly, most battery ones as well.

Sort of got off to a slow start but really picked up the pace after the first 20 miles. That's a relatively new Garmin 840; it charges from 10% to 100% in around 3 hours with the kLite Micro USB charger that comes with the kit. You can see that I skipped the HR monitor today. If you're familiar with the terrain north of Indianapolis, it's sort of like a billiards table, so 246 ft of ascent over 12 miles is hitting it pretty hard for around here.

Yeah, it's as high as an elephant's eye. The corn that is. Turned out to be a beautiful morning for a ride through north central Indiana. Not exactly sure why I stopped here to take this picture, but now that it's taken, I'm really wondering what the heck caused the gravelly surface to be dug up and patched on the right side there. I don't think there are any underground utilities out here. Sorry to leave you with a mystery but there it is.
