GDMBR Tour of Western New Mexico - Day 1-2

GDMBR Tour of Western New Mexico - Day 1-2. I arrived in El Paso yesterday from Indianapolis and after collecting my bike and snapping a bike selfie next to Amigo Man (below) was collected by Jeffery Sharp of the Hachita Bike Ranch. We rounded up two other riders, Eric G and Dave R, and headed west to Hachita in Jeffery’s Volvo Wagon and Bike box trailer.

After assembling the bike and making a brief test ride, packed up the trailer and headed for Antelope Wells for an evening start.

It was a hare rising hour plus trip down to the border, literally, with suicidal rabbits diving in front of the Volvo and Jeffery doing his best to keep us on the road. The coyotes had cleared up most of the carnage before we rode past on the way back. We arrived around 10pm and the air temperature had dropped to 85F. After some pictures, Dave, Eric, and I headed out on a spirited 60 mile ride back.

It was a clear night and after the moon slid behind the mountain range to the West, the Milky Way was visible. Other than the coyote howls and the sounds of the drivetrain, it was entirely silent. Air temperatures had dropped to 70 by the time we arrived here at 1:30am.

After a bunch of sleeping and eating at the bike ranch, I plan to head north to Silver City today after the heat of the day dissipates.

Check out the rest of the trip here.
